Newsbound
Graphic Designer
Newsbound is seeking an experienced Graphic Designer to work full-time on an innovative, angel-funded news product being developed in San Francisco.
With an emphasis on backstory and explanation, Newsbound is breaking away from the breaking news system. We're working to engage users who are motivated to learn about a particular news story, but feel overwhelmed by the pace and fluency of the 24-hour news system. Our mission is to expand the audience for substantive news and, in doing so, expand the broader conversation around these topics.
Central to the Newsbound vision is a belief that creative visual media helps lower the barriers-to-entry when it comes to complex stories. As our graphic designer, your primary responsibility will be to establish a visual identity for Newsbound's unique content and to generate assets on a daily basis (with an eye towards creating a reusable graphic library). In our office in San Francisco's Mission District, you'll work alongside a motion designer and a nimble editorial team to create compelling storyboards, icons, and illustrations that help illuminate the stories of the day. There is ample room to experiment and iterate. This is not your average newsroom.
You should have an eye for great typography and a passion for iconography and illustration. We expect you to have a degree in Graphic Design or commensurate experience. Knowledge of all things Adobe CS is a must. Experience storyboarding and working with After Effects is not required, but is a major plus. Above all, you must share our passion for making the news more accessible, engaging and user-focused.
Salary, equity and relocation assistance available, depending on experience.
If interested, please email: josh (at) newsbound (dot) com. Send us a link to your portfolio and tell us a bit about yourself and why this opportunity interests you.
