What I learned this year – Roger Camp + Jamie King

List of Lessons Learned:

1) Finding a great partner who shares your vision makes work feel a lot less like “work.”

———-

2) We learned how amazing it feels to sign the lease on a new office.

———-

3) Finding a great space that separates you from the other San Francisco agencies is key. (That spec in the sky is the spaceship Endeavor as seen from our office here in the Presidio.)

———-

4) Your employees are everything. Hire and retain people who are willing to challenge your thinking. If you’re always right, you’re dead. (We’ve found it’s helpful to ply them with PBR’s and chicken wings.)

———-

5) On any given day, the agency can tell how we’re doing based on the amount of “strut” in Jamie’s walk. (We built a movable indicator that details just how far his rooster tail is either out or not out.)

———-

6) This year everyone in the agency travelled so much that we sometimes found ourselves celebrating birthdays with sad make-shift parties while on the road.

———-

7) We also learned that haters are just going to keep on hating. (This was the response to an Agency spy article about some artwork we commissioned for the office. Good comedy.)

———-

8) This year Roger learned to check his zipper BEFORE pitching to a CEO and boardroom full of C level executives.

———-

9) When you have your own agency the highs are even higher and the lows lower. (This ginormous bottle of celebration was compliments of Greg Bell after we won Del Taco.)

———-

10) Always allow for some naiveté in the creative department, it leads to the unexpected. (Gratuitous shot of a dog on our roof.)

———-

11) Circumstances and the competition don’t matter when you have a big idea. (These were studio leftovers from an all nighter putting together a pitch book.)

———-

12) We’ve also found out this year that it’s not officially a “win” until the ink is dry. (Sorry Alec)

I like you guys a lot. A LOT. But the times i was in your office as a client (OLD Navy), and as a part time consultant.....Funions were never available. Never. I think you're amazing strategists and creatives but i think you are liars when it comes to in office snacks. I am glad you are succeeding any way but you should get better office snacks. Just in case that matters to big important CMOs like me.
