The 32 Under 32 interviews keep rolling along. They’ve all been fantastic so far and this one from Ksenya Rabover, Account Coordinator at Gauger + Associates is no exception. Give it a read and we’ll see you back tomorrow for another one. We’ve got plenty more where this came from.
Congrats on being chosen as one of the top 32 advertising and marketing professionals under 32. We selected people who really go above and beyond in their work. How do you think you approach your job differently than other people?
Wow! I feel so honored!
One of my favorite quotes is “If it doesn’t challenge you, it doesn’t change you.” I go into every project with a very positive attitude and take every problem as a challenge. I am always excited to take on new projects, whether it is a print campaign, a direct mail piece or coming up with a new strategy for an event. I have the same positive attitude outside of work because I am driven by challenges and completing goals. When I get an assignment to work on a new brand, I research the heck out of the company, its competitors, read industry reports, consumer insights, and basically any source that will make me as knowledgeable as I can possibly be to take on the project with a strategic approach for the end results to be meaningful. Researching is a huge passion of mine therefore; I can sit for hours and hours learning about new topics just to find those tiny insights that might be useful somewhere down the road.
I think loving your job is a big part of WANTING to go above and beyond at work and I am lucky enough to work in an industry that I love.
What kind of accounts/projects are you working on these days?
The agency I work for specializes in Natural Food & Beverage Products (Yup, those things you buy at Whole Foods), Homebuilders (You know for when you want to buy a house to sleep in and get a cute dog) and, Luxury Retirement Communities (For when you get old and want someone else to cook for you while you relax outside on your iPhone).
I get to work on all 3 categories with some amazing clients.
What is it about where you currently work that really pushes you to be better?
My boss respects my opinions and takes them into consideration when we collaborate on projects, which then gives me a boost of confidence and motivates me to work harder. I think having a great leader inspires me to be successful and makes me want to keep growing in my career.
In thinking over your career so far, what work had made you the proudest?
Planning Grand Opening events for Shea Homes makes me very proud (tear*). Every quarter or so, I have the opportunity to take the lead on managing the events from the concept phase all the way to the execution on opening day. I work with a variety of vendors to make my clients vision come to life, which allows my creative juices to flow. Receiving generous thank you emails and calls from my client about the success of the events gives me purpose.
The person who nominated you called out your attitude as a key reason you’re great to work with. Is there something specific you try to bring to each project?
I feel so special that they said I am great to work with!
I think being well rounded and knowing how to relate to various personalities comes in handy when trying to communicate ideas with each other while in group settings. It is important to try and see all perspectives and be open-minded with every conversation you have, whether it be with strangers or someone close to you. I try to be positive in every aspect of life and I bring that attitude to each project I work on.
Here’s a ridiculously clichéd interview question for you: Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
Eating tacos on a private jet.
This might be tough, but here’s your chance to give a shout out to one person who has helped you get to where you are today. Go.
I would like to give a BIG SHOUT OUT to my old college professors. They taught me everything that I needed to know to start my career in advertising. I felt ready and confident to work at an ad agency after I graduated. They pushed me to my limits even when I wanted to give up. If you are reading this, THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING GUYS! (Vince Engel, James Wojtowicz, Cameron Maddux, Mark Edwards and Andrea Pimentel) (Sorry I can’t choose just one).
