My 2018 To-Do List: Haraldur Thorleifsson, Founder / CEO, ueno.

People have limited time. You have a row of small moments that somehow fill your days. And then they die.

Someone else is working on fixing the death part (we can’t do everything). Ueno was founded to work on the small moments. To make them more meaningful, fun, inspiring, exciting, stupid and surprising.

To date we have focused most of our efforts on creating digital things. Things you can’t touch. We can create amazing digital products that you want to use every day. We can make a marketing experience that makes you feel something. We can create a brand you’ll love. Those aren’t easy tasks but that’s what we do every day and that’s what we’ll continue to do. And continue to get better at.

But that’s just the beginning. Our long term goal is to be able to design just about anything. Your new favorite pair of socks, the chair you tell your friends about for whatever reason, your best work day, the house you can’t wait to come home to every day. Your first flying car, the one you tell your grandkids about because after all these years you still think nobody has made a better one.

I know. That sounds a bit ludicrous. Right?

But how can you make a dent if your goals aren’t ludicrous? We wouldn’t have gotten to where we are today by (just) being rational.

And no, we’re not starting with the flying car. That’ll have to come a little later. But we are working on small things, household objects, little experiments that we can trickle out.

We’ll take baby steps at first, just like we’ve done on the digital side. We’ll make mistakes. But we’ll learn from them, get better and one day you’ll wonder why all your favorite things are designed by one company.
