From The Handmaid’s Tale to Wonder Woman, we have seen a groundswell in works for, by, and about women being widely celebrated and garnering critical acclaim. But, how far have we moved the visual representation of women in the 21st century?

Please join us for a showing of photographic work that examines female representation across media. Umbreen Bhatti, Director of Innovation at KQED, and our panel will explore shifts in gender representation over time, and what inclusion means for the future of visual communication.

Our panel:

  • Jacqueline Bourke, Senior Manager, Creative Insights & Planning | Getty Images

  • Laura Morton, Photographer, widely praised and awarded for her work on “Wild West Tech,” which explores the tech culture of San Francisco and Silicon Valley

  • Amanda Kelso, Head of Community | Instagram

Subject, Object, Creator: The Female Gaze Exhibition features seventy photographs of women (and two gender-bending men) from female photographers, revealing a raw and honest visual truth about the nature of modern woman.
