Interesting stuff going on over at Portal A. They’ve greenlit two new pilots as part of a program designed to bring innovative show formats directly to fans. Under the new banner “Moonshots”, the studio plans to fund, produce, and release a series of projects in 2019.
“Some of the most groundbreaking series in recent memory – from Insecure to Broad City – have come as a result of creative talent bypassing the traditional gatekeepers and taking an idea directly to the audience,” said Nate Houghteling, Executive Producer at Portal A, “We pride ourselves on our ability to experiment with new formats and platforms, and we see a huge opportunity to use YouTube and social media as a proving ground.”
The Moonshots program will be anchored by two new series:
HEY GUYS is a horror-comedy starring actress and creator Alexis G. Zall. Told in an Instagram-native format, the show follows the trials of as a fame-obsessed Creator who is possessed by Satan after making a deal with the devil for more followers. Horror writer Brea Grant is signed on to write and direct with Defiant Studio’s Eric Fleishman (Monster Party, All About Nina) attached as an Executive Producer on the Instagram series.
ALT WEB is the premium docu-series entirely dedicated to the stranger-than-fiction stories born on the internet. Directed and executive produced by Mike Diva, each episode will be a visual acid trip down a new rabbit hole of digital culture – from the untold history of meme economies to the tales of online communities run amok.
Both sound interesting. We’ll keep an eye out for this original content from Portal A.
