After 40 years, the International Caples Awards is taking a different approach to show entries — going forward, it’ll be free. Yes, you heard that right. It’s FREE.
This isn’t some random ad award either. The Caples brings in creative director judges from around the world, places like Australia, Belgium, Canada, Chile, Germany, India, New Zealand, Portugal, Spain, the Philippines, the UAE and the UK.
The Caples’ primary purpose is to “recognise and reward great creative work.” And last year they decided, what with a little pandemic crushing ad agencies everywhere, to do a test and make The Caples free to enter. The result was more than a big increase in entries, there was a shift in quality – upwards. Small independent agencies submitted work and won, which was as pleasing for the judges as it was for the agencies.
They handed out awards via Zoom. Jurors and winners talked (virtually) about the work in front of an audience of hundreds. It all worked better than anyone could have hoped. So they’re doing it again.
The Caples Awards 2021 are open for entry now. Entry deadline is April 30th.
Please note: there is a second terminal, this-is-it deadline of May 8th for agencies who need it. BUT they will charge for late entries in this final week because of the overtime involved in getting them uploaded and ready for the judges on May 13th.
Judging is from May 13th to May 18th.
The presentation will be livestreamed on May 26th.
Ideally from The Groucho Club in London, depending on Covid.
