The Associate Media Director is a key member of the agency media team and leads a team of media professionals in the conception and delivery of innovative, business-building marketing solutions across a variety of media to meet or exceed client objectives. This involves the creation and execution of integrated media plans, unearthing insights to inform the development of the media plan and flawless execution across all channels.

The AMD has a passion for digital media and how it has influenced traditional media vehicles and platforms to connect brands with their desired audiences. The AMD needs to maintain a close pulse on the marketplace and continue to push its boundaries through collaboration and innovation.

Responsibilities:
Leadership/Management:
• Demonstrates leadership experience/skills along with the ability to manage multiple people at varying levels
• Keep Director of Media Services apprised of team initiatives/work/projects and consult on key decisions
• Ability to function as a leader while promoting highest sense of teamwork
• Act as a resource for all team and department employees
• Maintain an in-depth knowledge of client business
• Willingness to ask questions, be a sounding board and give feedback and advice Participates in agency goal setting and policy making decisions
• Monitors and manages staff development, career paths, reviews and hiring
• Supports Human Resources in discipline training

Technical & Departmental:
• Works collaboratively across departments (insight, creative, account services, media and digital/data) to develop the strategic design for digital plan components (paid media)
• Fosters strong agency-vendor relations to develop comprehensive media plans that successfully accomplish client goals
• Consistently bring new media and technology ideas to the team for application and brainstorming while also helping ensure that the agency continues to feel connected to the larger media community
• Evaluates and implements processes as necessary to aid in execution of work
• Maintains overall control of work-flow and assigned team responsibilities within the group -- oversees the progress of all projects
• Demonstrate to clients how proposed media solutions will show expected return on investment with company
• Provides strategic analysis of plans to determine impact and overall outcome on all measurable variables such as sales, guest/traffic counts, average check, lift in measurable brand attributes, awareness, advocacy, etc.
• Represents the agency at client and industry events
• Financially responsible for all paid media digital budgets and costs
• Aggressively pursues new ways to contribute to overall agency and client profitability
• Participates in new business development
• Is intellectually honest and discreet
• Stewards agency vision, cultural norms and mission in daily engagements

Development:
• Stimulates team productivity and growth by allocation of assignments which combine to make productive and effective use of each person’s skills, as well as motivating their interests and challenging their minds
• Proactively communicate performance goals, as well as accomplishments and areas of improvement to staff members on a regular basis. Prepares thoughtful and thorough performance appraisals that consistently and fairly indicate staff members’ performance relative to expected performance for each position – and completes documentation according to established timeframes.
• Creates a positive working environment and fosters an overall team approach

Reporting Structure:

• This role reports to the Director of Media Services
• Reporting to the Associate Media Director are media team members, primarily but not limited to Media Planners and Media Coordinators

Measure of Success:

• The clients of the agency are making progress toward achievement of their marketing objectives and credit the agency for its contributions
• Programs and projects are completed accurately, on time, and within budget
• Relationships among AS team in each office and with other functional departments are harmonious and productive
• Client and agency business goals, as outlined in operating instructions, are met or exceeded
• Coordination with the leadership team for the smooth administration of cross-functional relationships, standardized procedures/processes, and data/information processes
• Leads the team in such a way that employee morale and esprit de corps is tangible and evident
• Connects with client in such a way that VJ is always a recommended solution to a business problem
• Positioning the agency at the forefront of digital technology and enhancing the agency’s reputation as a cutting-edge digital partner

Qualifications:

• Minimum 7 years’ experience delivering digital-based solutions
• Minimum of 3 years senior-level strategic planning experience with developed capabilities in strategy, campaign planning and/or consulting roles
• Experience in campaign measurement and distribution tools such Google Analytics and DoubleClick, experience managing programmatic platforms preferred
• Experience with media planning tools and software such as MediaTools/SQAD (Workhorse) and Freewheel and Microsoft Office
• Knowledge of current and emerging trends in digital and programmatic planning, buying and distribution
• Highly organized with the ability to multitask to meet tight deadlines and schedules as required
• Ability to lead a team, delegate responsibility and display strong strategic direction
• Outstanding interpersonal skills along with strong writing, presentation and problem-solving capability
• Knowledge and understanding of social media platforms and their respective participants (Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube, Twitter, etc.) and how they can be deployed in different scenarios
